Nyiaeso MP Moves To Stop Minors From Sports Betting

  The New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament (MP) for Nhyiaeso in the Ashanti Region, Dr Stephen Amoah, has said he was collaborating with the relevant agencies to set up a security task force to stop minors from patronising sports betting centres in his constituency. The move, he said, was to stop the increasing trend of young people becoming addicted to gambling at the expense of their education, and in the event resorting to stealing, to make them responsible citizens. Community engagement At a community engagement, Dr Amoah said he was also collaborating with the police to stop the use of unregistered motorbikes within the Nhyiaeso constituency. Already, he said 19 of such bike riders had been arrested and handed over to the police.  The Education Minister is asking Grade “A” schools to learn to accept students with low grades and mould them into good students capable of passing their West African Secondary School Certificate Examination (WASSCE). According to Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum, that’s the best way to assess how best these schools are. Speaking at the launch of the University of Cape Coast at 60 celebrations in Cape Coast, the Minister said always receiving the best Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) students and making score good WASSCE grades does not make them the best schools.   The Trades Union Congress (TUC) has warned that it will embark on an industrial action never-seen-before in the history of Ghana if the government does not increase the salary of members. Speaking at a forum in Accra on Thursday, April 21, Secretary-General of the TUC, Dr Yaw Baah asked the government not to hide behind the impact of the coronavirus and ongoing Russia and Ukraine war not to increase salaries. “Employers should index our pay to the inflation because the employer change the prices of their goods so the inflation rate does not affect them the way it is affecting us therefore we should get our salaries indexed,” he stated. Lebanese arrested with fake $10k at KIA pleads guilty, convicted

  A 25-year-old Lebanese Al-Zoubayr Chaaban has been convicted by the Circuit Court 1 in Accra after pleading guilty to a charge of possession of fake currency note contrary to section 18(2) of Currency Act. 1964 (Act.242). The Court presided over by His Honour Prosper Gomashie convicted the accused on his own guilty plea. He was handed a non-custodial sentence by the court and was fined 700 penalty Units, equivalent to GHc8,400. In default, he is to serve two years of prison term. The brief facts of the case according to the prosecutor Chief Inspector Amoah Richard of Legal and Prosecution Unit of the CID Headquarters, were that the accused who was exiting Ghana through the Kotaka International was arrested by the National Security operatives during a search. After Musk’s TED talk on Thursday, he hinted at the possibility of a hostile bid in which he would bypass Twitter’s board and put the offer directly to its shareholders, tweeting: “It would be utterly indefensible not to put this offer to a shareholder vote”. Man, 46, allegedly shoots wife over ¢2

A 46-year-old farmer at Assin Bepokokoo in the Assin South District of the Central Region has allegedly shot his wife over her refusal to give him ¢2 to buy alcohol. Victoria Asiedu narrating the incident to Adom News, said Alex Quainoo had earlier requested a torchlight to go on snail hunting. She explained that the suspect, who is currently on the run, returned around 8:00 pm on Easter Saturday and demanded the money, but she could not provide it. Her husband, who was not pleased, threatened to kill her and eventually shot her in her two palms after missing the targeted neck. The victim is currently receiving treatment at the St Francis Xavier Hospital at Assin Fosu.
